Malcolm Tierney Remembered

sw_malcolmT One of Britain’s greatest character actors has died at age 75 from pulmonary fibrosis. Malcolm Tierney, known to Doctor Who fans as Doland in the 1980’s incarnation of the series made his mark on the big and small screen as well as the stage.

For cinema and television Tierney was seen in everything from the original UK version of House of Cards, Lovejoy, Star Wars, Braveheart, Great Expectations and the Wallander TV series.

He starred alongside some of the biggest names in film, television and the stage -- Mel Gibson, Val Kilmer, Ian McShane, Daniel Day Lewis, Vanessa Redgrave, Peter Cushing and countless more.

His acting career spanned five decades beginning in 1964. Upon hearing of his death Redgrave stated, “He was a loving man, and very loved; a brilliant actor. Only my brother or sister could make me laugh the way Malcolm did.”

Tierney has one film due for release in the UK sometime in 2014 titled Two Days in the Smoke co-starring Matt Di Angelo, Lili Bordan and Stephen Marcus.
