Wildseed Studios, the next-generation talent incubator, in conjunction with SCI-FI-LONDON, the UK’s leading genre film festival, is launching an online ‘Summer of Sci-Fi’ film festival on its YouTube channel throughout August, showcasing for the first time ever the 2014 SCI-FI-LONDON 48hr film challenge finalist films.

Earlier this year, Wildseed partnered with SCI-FI-LONDON, on their 48hr film challenge, in which filmmakers each created a short film in 48hrs. The judging panel which included Danny Boyle and Warwick Davis shortlisted 18 films which will be shown during the Wildseed Studios ‘Summer of Sci-Fi’ starting 10am GMT on Thursday 7 August and run throughout August.

In the launch week, 4 films will be released including Back Issue which takes a dark look at a world in which biometrics have developed their own mind, and Jupiter’s Glare which examines a teenager’s dilemma in a gender crisis hit re-imagined future. The launch week will also feature a welcome from Louis Savy (founder of SCI-FI-LONDON) and Jesse Cleverly (creative director of Wildseed Studios) with 4 or 5 new films released each week. Exclusive behind the scenes footage and interviews with the filmmakers telling their 48hr story will also be available on the ‘Summer of Sci-Fi’ playlist.

‘Summer of Sci-Fi’ will take place on Wildseed Studios’ YouTube channel http://ow.ly/zVm57 and the company is asking the public to help in the judging (via likes, views and comments). Wildseed Studios is planning to offer the overall winner a cash and in-kind support award to produce a micro-budget feature film with Wildseed Studios.

Earlier this year Wildseed Studios’ critically acclaimed Sci-Fi horror Hungerford http://ow.ly/vALpK, a portrait of a small English town taken over by aliens which descends into violence and carnage, made history as its 19-year-old director Drew Casson became the youngest on record to have a feature screened at the BFI.

Over the last five years over 800 films have been completed at the SCI-FI-LONDON 48hr Film Challenge, many of which have gone on to other film festivals and been broadcast on TV. Gareth Edwards, who won the 2008 SCI-FI-LONDON 48hr Film Challenge with his Factory Farmed short http://ow.ly/zN8mq this year directed a Hollywood film about a big lizard… the Godzilla reboot!

Co-writer and producer of Hungerford Jesse Cleverly said: “It’s incredible what the next-generation of filmmakers can achieve in 48 hours and we take great pride in being able to nurture the sci-fi directors of tomorrow. For the first time ever, Wildseed Studios ‘Summer of Sci-Fi’ will showcase the very best out of all the amazing shorts in this year’s SCI-FI-LONDON 48hr film challenge. We’re all about supporting grass-roots talent with funding, creative mentorship and strategic advice so we want the public to get involved and let us know which of the 18 films from the SCI-FI-LONDON 48hr film challenge rocks their world as we plan to offer the overall winner a cash and in-kind support award to produce a micro-budget feature film with Wildseed Studios.”
